Almighty God, on this day you opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation by the promised gift of your Holy Spirit: Shed abroad this gift throughout the world by the preaching of the Gospel, that it may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. The human race was living in thick darkness, in the darkness of the shadow of death itself. We were lost. Not sure where we were or who we were or where we were headed. But suddenly in the darkness a light began to glow. A warm light. A welcoming light. The light from the door that flung open to our true home. And suddenly we knew who we were and where we belonged.
